Wallace Bert Cutting was born near Southampton, Hampshire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the 20th Hussars at Southampton on 21 October 1890, aged 18 years, 1 month. With the regiment he served in India, September 1895-October 1898. Transferred to the Army Reserve in November 1898, he was recalled to the colours in December 1899 and posted to the 10th Hussars. With them he served in South Africa, March 1900-October 1901. He was discharged having completed his service on 20 October 1902. With copied service papers.
