Albert Frederick Sneyd was born in Crewe, Cheshire. A Marquee Repairer by occupation, he attested for the Ordnance Store Corps at Warrington on 15 June 1895. Transferring to the 9th Lancers in December 1896, he served in India, September 1897-October 1899 and in South Africa, October 1899-September 1902. For the latter service he was awarded the Queen’s medal with clasps for ‘Belmont’, ‘Modder River’, ‘Johannesburg’, ‘Diamond Hill’, and ‘Orange Free State’, in addition to his King’s medal. Sneyd served in the Army Reserve, September 1902-June 1907. With copied service papers and roll extracts.
