Six: Private R. F. Reid, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, who was killed in action in Italy in May 1944

1939-45 Star; Italy Star; Defence Medal 1939-45, in silver; Canadian Voluntary Service Medal 1939-45, with overseas clasp; War Medal 1939-45, in silver, together with the recipient’s Canadian Memorial Cross, G.VI.R., the reverse officially inscribed, ‘106103 Pte. R. F. Reid’, lacquered, good very fine (6) £120-160

Robert Francis Reid was born at Arrow River, Manitoba, in November 1924 and enlisted in the Canadian Army in at Regina in May 1943. Embarked for the U.K. at the end of the latter year, he was assigned to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Reinforcement Unit and thence, in February 1944, to Prince Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in Italy. And it was in this latter capacity that he was killed in action on 20 May 1944. The son of Olive M. Reid of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, he was buried in Cassino War Cemetery.
