Pair: Lieutenant N. G. Woodrow, Lincolnshire Regiment

Victory Medal 1914-19 (Lieut. N. G. Woodrow); Portugal, Order of St. Avis, Chevalier’s breast badge, in silver-gilt and enamel, generally good very fine (2) £80-100

Norman Graham Woodrow was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, in October 1915, which unit later fought alongside units of the Portuguese Expeditionary Force. At the battle of Estaire in April 1918, when Woodrow is believed to have been taken P.O.W., the 10th Lincolns were in line with the 2nd Portuguese Division - here, then, probable ground for his subsequent award of the Order of St. Avis (London Gazette 24 October 1919, refers).

Sold with an original copy of The London Gazette announcing the award of the recipient’s Order of St. Avis, together with brief research.
