Alfred William Kemp was born at Southsea, Portsmouth in February 1878 and enlisted in the Royal Marine Light Infantry in June 1896. Posted as a Private to the Portsmouth Division, he joined H.M.S. Fearless in November 1897, in which capacity he went on to qualify for the Queen’s South Africa Medal but not with any clasps. Awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in February 1911, he was serving aboard the battleship Thunderer on the outbreak of hostilities and remained similarly employed until coming ashore in December 1916, thereby ensuring his presence at the battle of Jutland. Kemp was employed in the repair and depot ship Cyclops from the summer of 1917 until the end of the War, and was demobilised in April 1919. He died in July 1951; sold with copied service record and further research.
