Recommendation reads: ‘On 12.7.44 near Bishenpur Sepoy Mohd Ismael was a member of a raiding party which was ordered to attack and destroy an enemy bunker on R.K. Ridge. The party reached their objective and were able to surprise about forty of the enemy who were lying up behind the bunker. A battle ensued during which the enemy made repeated attempts to regain the position. Utterly regardless of enemy fire Sepoy Mohd. Ismael was to the fore front with grenade and Tommy Gun. When his grenades were exhausted he hurled rocks with considerable effect. The enemy were driven back in confusion leaving many dead to bear witness. Throughout the action Sepoy Mohd Ismael displayed outstanding gallantry.’
