A Great War M.M. awarded to Private W. J. Sarrasin, 31st Alberta Regiment

Military Medal, G.V.R. (219635 Pte., 31/Alberta R.) very fine £300-350

William Joseph (or James) Sarrasin was born on 20 March 1896 and enlisted into the Canadian Expeditionary Force on 9 October 1915. Serving with the 31st Canadian Infantry, Alberta Regiment, he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field during the battle of Amiends, 28 August 1918.

Citation: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations from August 23rd to 28th. This man continually carried despatches to the front line Companies and outposts under heavy shell and machine gun fire. His utter disregard to personal danger was a fine example to all the men of his section. In this case and in previous occasions his conduct has been worthy of the highest praise.’
