A Great War M.M. awarded to Sergeant W. Hull, Yorkshire Light Infantry

Military Medal, G.V.R. (11445 Sjt. W. Hull, 6/York L.I.), contact marks, edge bruising and polished, good fine £200-250

M.M. London Gazette 11 November 1916.

Walter Hull first entered the French theatre of war in May 1915, as a Sergeant in the 6th Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry, and likely won his M.M. on the occasion his unit repulsed an enemy attack at Delville Wood on the Somme in mid-September 1916 when, with all officers lost, ‘what remained of the companies under their N.C.Os turned back and with bomb and bayonet dealt with their attackers’. Having also seen service with the Royal Engineers, Hull was discharged in February 1918, as a result of wounds or sickness.
