In company with H.M.S. Hermes, the 19,000-ton aircraft carrier Invincible, commanded by Captain J. J. Black, D.S.O., O.B.E., shared the provision of almost all the air power of the campaign from start to finish. She was, moreover, ordered to remain behind in the South Atlantic following the cessation of hostilities, thereby being at sea longer than any other R.N. ship before her.
