49th Madras Infantry Officer’s Shako Plate c. 1844 - 56, an extremely fine and rare example, crowned eight pointed star gilt back plate overlaid with a facetted silver star and this in turn overlaid with a gilt oval garter ‘Madras Infantry’, within the garter laurel sprays enclosing ‘XLIX’, the whole of the garter section on a ground of blue enamel, two loop fasteners and two pairs of wire fasteners, a small section of the blue enamel is missing, the top jewel on the orb and cross section of the crown is missing and some buckling to three of the star points, the gilt in excellent condition £500-700
