Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society, Fire Medal, silver (To Joseph Jones, For Gallant Service on 1st December 1912) with silver buckle on ribbon, in Oldfields, Liverpool case of issue, extremely fine £320-360

Silver medal and Certificate of Thanks each to Joseph Jones and Tramway Inspector John A. Johnson; also Bronze medals and Certificates of Thanks to Inspector Edwin Walpole and George Henry Robinson, for rescuing five persons from a house on fire in Paddington on the 1st December 1912. Jones and several of the inmates were severely burned, and had to be removed to the Royal Infirmary, where they remained for treatment. Certificate of Thanks each to Tramway Inspectors Harry Fox and James Slater for assisting to rescue the inmates of the house on fire in Paddington on the 1st December.’

With an original letter to Mr J. Jones, dated 7 December 1912:

‘Sir, A friend of mine in London has had his attention drawn to your courage & promptitude at a fire last week, when you and another man (James Slater) were the means of saving the lives of two girls who were in imminent danger, and desires me to send you the enclosed cheque for a guinea & a half, as a token of his appreciation of your heroism & self-sacrifice. I regret to notice that you were yourself injured, but hope that it is not serious, & that you are now well on the way to recovery. ....’
