‘M’ Division - Southwark.

Robert Bearne was born in Highweek, Newton Bushel, Devonshire. A Cellerman by occupation he attested for short service with the 1st Royal Dragoons at London on 18 February 1890, aged 18 years, 3 months. With the regiment he served at home until transferred to the Army Reserve in February 1897. He took employment with the Metropolitan Police, serving in ‘M’ Division, in time to receive the 1897 Jubilee Medal. He was recalled to the Colours in October 1899 and served in South Africa with the 1st Dragoons, October 1899-July 1902. He was discharged, having completed his period of service, on 15 August 1902. Returning to the Police Force he was awarded the Metropolitan Police Coronation Medal of 1902. With copied Army service papers.
