Four: attributed to Warrant Officer W. Annis, Royal Air Force, who was taken P.O.W. while serving as a pilot in No. 103 Squadron in August 1943

Provenance: direct purchase by Squadron Leader David Haller from the recipient’s widow.

Annis served as a pilot in No. 103 Squadron, his Lancaster being shot down by a night fighter during the costly raid on Nuremberg on 27-28 August 1943. Sustaining severe back injuries as a result of his subsequent parachute descent, he was repatriated in September 1944. Of the remaining members of crew, four were killed and two also taken P.O.W.; sold with brief research.
