Arthur John Sumbler was born and lived in Quemerford, Calne, Wiltshire and enlisted at Devizes. Serving with the 7th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he was killed in action in Salonika, 24 April 1917, aged 17 years. His name is commemorated on the Doiran Memorial, Greece. He was the son of Thomas William and Martha Sumbler, of Quemerford, Calne. Three officers and 104 other ranks of the 7th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment were killed on 24 April 1917.
