Samuel Kyte was born in Halshead, Devizes, Wiltshire. A Labourer by occupation and a member of the 3rd Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he attested for regular service with the regiment at Devizes on 11 July 1888, aged 18 years, 6 months. With the 2nd Battalion he served in India, February 1891-November 1895 and in South Africa, December 1899-July 1901. With copied service papers.
