Edward the Confessor (1042-1066), Cut Halfpenny, Expanding Cross type, Light issue, probably Nottingham, Snoter, [—]ter on sn[—], 0.52g/12h (Freeman –; N 821, bust var. b; S 1176). Very fine, excessively rare £100-150

Freeman records a unique Small Flan penny of Snoter (BMC 1198). It is not surprising that a coin of an adjacent type should turn up. The drapery on the bust is similar to the ‘Pacx’ style portrait which North notes is a variety found at Lincoln, Stamford and York, A similar coin from a different obverse die is recorded on the PAS website LIN-F4B618
