A Great War M.C. group of five awarded to Major G. C. Phipps, 23rd (Sportsmans) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers

Military Cross, G.V.R., reverse neatly inscribed ‘Capt. G. C. Phipps, Cambrai, 30th Nov. 1917’, in fitted case of issue; 1939-45 Star; Africa Star, with 1st Army bar; Defence and War Medals, Second War medals in original card box of issue addressed to ‘Major G. C. Phipps, M.C. at Plymouth, Devon’ together with a 9 carat gold Royal Fusiliers sweetheart brooch, the flaming grenade inset with diamond chips; Divisional Citation card, inscribed ‘2nd Lieut. G. C. Phipps, 23rd Royal Fusiliers. Your Commanding Officer and Brigade Commander have informed me that you have distinguished yourself by conspicuous bravery in the field on 30/11/17 to 4/12/17. I have read their reports and, although promotion and decorations cannot be given in every case I should like you to know that your gallant action is recognised and how greatly it is appreciated.’; and two named certificates on his leaving the army in July 1945, nearly extremely fine (6) £250-300
