On completion of training he was selected to take part in a Royal Marine display team for a Corps open day at CTCRM. This involved practising and performing drill movements to a very high standard. He subsequently joined RM Condor in Scotland for Commando Service where he spent 2 years serving with 45 Cdo RM. During this period he took part in Op HAVEN which was a multi-national humanitarian relief operation for Kurdish reugees.

Marine Drew then saw sea service aboard HMS
Boxer which included a world-wide cruise and culminated in a three month patrol off the coast of the former Yugoslavia. On his return to commando service he volunteered for the Air Defence Troop, 3 Cdo Bde and based in Plymouth. This employment further broadened his military knowledge and gave him a specialist skill much in demand during Op DRIVER, which was a UK/US pre-emptive deployment to Kuwait to deter Iraqi aggression. He also completed Arctic warfare training during this period. Marine Drew then joined RM Poole to serve with the Special Boat Service. He has qualified as a military parachutist and has received training in diving and photography. During his nine years in the Corps he has deployed on many exercises in all theatres of the world. Marine Drew has seen operational service in Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland, Northern Iraq, Kuwait and Bosnia, for this he has been awarded the GSM and clasp, together with the NATO Medal.’
