Major Walter Read Waldo Henderson was serving with the 34th Fort Garry Horse prior to the Great War, being appointed a Second Lieutenant on 3 August 1915 with the 106th Winnipeg Light Infantry, He was transferred to the Royal Air Force on 13 January 1918, retaining the rank of Second Lieutenant, and posted to No. 5 Squadron. On 3 May 1918 whilst flying over the Western front, both he and his Observer were ‘wounded in combat’, Henderson being shot in the right shoulder. As a result of this wound Henderson was transferred to the R.A.F. Administration Branch, being unfit to fly. After the Great War he served with the Winnipeg Light Infantry and the 10th Divisional Signals in various administrative capacities. Sold with a file of comprehensive research detail.
