Wilfred Dallas Cairns, 4th Earl, was born on 28 November 1865, and educated at Wellington. Served in South Africa in 1902 with the Rifle Brigade (Queen’s Medal and 3 clasps). Appointed Lieutenant-Colonel Commanding London Rifle Brigade, 1912, and served during the Great War (Despatches London Gazette 17 February 1915, C.M.G.). He succeeded his father as 4th Earl in 1905 and died on 24 October 1946.
