Russia, Order of St Anne, a superb First Class breast star by Pannasch 1827, silver with central medallion in gold and enamels, 78 mm, with applied Imperial Crown in gold and enamels, the reverse with maker’s mark IP of Emanuel Pannasch, St Petersburg hallmark, fineness mark 84 (zolotniki), and assayer’s mark MK, with date 1827, of Michail Michailovich Karpinskii (St Petersburg 1825-38), contained in its original fitted red leather octagonal case, this lacking retaining catch, otherwise nearly extremely fine and extremely rare £2000-2500

Sold by direct descent from Sir James Leighton, P.C. and Physician to His Imperial Majesty Nicholas of all the Russias, and Physician General of the Imperial Navy. This star and the badge following were the insignia worn by him.
