A very rare ‘Bahr-El-Ghazal Expedition 1900-1901’ presentation silver cigarette case, hallmarked Birmingham 1902, the front of the case inscribed ‘Bahr-El-Ghazal Expedition 1900-1901’, and with finely enamelled Union Jack and Turkish national flags, the back of the case inscribed with five facsimile signatures of the officers and the names of two N.C.O.s in block capitals, very good condition and very rare £600-800

Presented by Colonel W. S. Sparkes to the officers and N.C.O.s who accompanied him on the Bahr-El-Ghazal Expedition 1900-01. The names of the officers inscribed on the back lid are: W. S. Sparkes (Bt. Lt.-Col., Welsh Regt.), W. A. Boulnois (Captain, R.A.), A. M. Pirie, Major, D.S.O., 21st Lancers), H. E. Haymes, Lieut., R.A.M.C.), and H. L. H. Fell, R.N.; the two N.C.O.s being F. Boardman (Sgt., D.C.M., Liverpool Regiment) and F. J. Sears (Sgt., D.C.M. & Bar, R.M.A.). For further details see O.M.R.S.
