Alaric Edward Arengo Cross was born in Wales on 17 May 1847, and appointed to the 75th Regiment in May 1867, as Ensign. He became Lieutenant in April 1869, and Captain in October 1878. He arrived in Egypt in August 1882 where he took part in the battle of Tel-El-Kebir on the 13th September. He next served in the Eastern Soudan in 1884, including the battles of El-Teb and Tamaai, and in the Nile expedition 1884-85. He was mentioned in despatches London Gazette 2 November 1882, and, according to his service record, again mentioned in despatches in 1884. He died at Cairo on 28 February 1885, having been promoted Brevet Lieut.-Colonel the previous May. Sold with copy service record.
