Estimate: £1,200–£1,400

South Africa 1877-79, 1 clasp, 1879 (Lt. Col. Honble. Henry Needham, Late Grenr. Gds.) official correction to ‘Honble’ and Christian name, otherwise very fine and rare £1200-1400

Confirmed on the medal roll which incorrectly shows him as ‘Lord Harry’, thus providing a probable explanation for the correction to ‘Honble. Henry’.

Captain & Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Needham served during the 1879 campaign as Orderley Officer to Brigadier General Evelyn Wood, and was mentioned in despatches. This was his only medal and one of only 16, all ranks, to the Grenadier Guards. Sold with copy service record and medal roll.
