Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Navarino (Evan Morris) suspension slack, scuffs and edge bruising, otherwise better than good fine £280-320

The rolls confirm as a Private, Royal Marines, aboard H.M.S. Cambrian. One other man with these names is shown on the rolls for 14 December Boat Service 1814.

Evan Morris was born at Llandillovour, Carmarthenshire, and entered the Nvay at Brecon in January 1814, aged 19. He took part in the battle of Navarino in the
Cambrian and was still on board that ship when, in January 1828, she was sunk on a reef of rocks after an action against some Greek pirate ships. There were no lives lost and Morris was subsequently discharged to the Britannia and then to the Lightening, from which ship he deserted in December 1829. Sold with further research including copies from ship’s books and musters.
