The Shipping Association of Jamaica is registered as a trade union, serving to regulate the daily supply and management of certain categories of labour. The medal’s recipient was Herbert Trench Hart (†2002, aged 92), a business executive and former manager of the Jamaica Producers Group. He is said to have been one of the entrepreneurs who developed Tia Maria, the world-famous coffee liqueur
