Medals, Jamaica, Baptist Chapel, St. Ann’s Bay, Enlarged, 1839, a copper medal by J. Davis, façade of the chapel, rev. monument, 41mm (cf. BHM 1878 for reverse). About extremely fine, extremely rare £400-600

The obverse image is from a lithogaph by R. Cartwright. A variety of the medal is known with an obverse of Joseph Sturge, commemorating the Anti-Slavery Society formed at St. Ann’s Bay in 1839 whilst the reverse, with the view of the Chapel but reading baptist chapel ocho rios. The monument reverse is usually found with an image of William Knibb on the obverse (BHM 1878). The St. Ann's Bay Chapel was established in 1827 by the Revd Thomas Bromley and the Revd Samuel Nichols was its first missionary. The minister named on the medal was the Revd Thomas F. Abbott
