Provenance: R.J. Ford Collection, Part I, Spink Auction 79, 15 October, 1990, lot 455.

William Henry Peckitt (1870-1934), the London stamp dealer known as 'The Panther of the Strand' who, in 1898, famously bought the Mauritius Post Office Penny stamp of 1847 for £600 (it is now in the Royal Collection). He retired in 1913 and sold his business to Stanley Gibbons Ltd
