HMS Raven, a 16-gun brig, was part of a small British squadron which engaged four French-manned gun-brigs at the entrance to the river Jahde on 2 August 1811, in a skirmish that ultimately proved successful, but with loss of life on both sides. A detailed account of the engagement, from William James’ Naval History of Great Britain, is sold with the lot
