M.M. London Gazette 11 July 1940: ‘On 23 May near Arras, Corporal Curling showed conspicuous gallantry and leadership when in the face of the enemy he rallied his sub-section and all the infantry in his vicinity and fought his way back as an infantry platoon to Brigade HQ on the Pont de Jour. His action assisted in checking the enemy advance.’
