M.C. London Gazette 20 September 1917: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when acting as liaison officer to a battalion. He sent in information which was of the greatest assistance to the divisional artillery, and it was largely due to his initiative that information that the enemy was assembling for an attack was received and acted upon by the artillery. He showed the greatest gallantry and determination under heavy fire’ (Zandvoorde).

Lieutenant Edward Gould Whelpton, R.F.A., served in France and Belgium from 29 March 1916 to 10 April 1918 (Wounded. M.C.).
