Hon. Harold Fielden served in the South African war with the 1st Regiment of Brabant’s Horse and was present at the siege of Wepener, 9th to 25th April 1900. He was afterwards 2nd in command of the Prince of Wales’ Light Horse, which was raised at the end of 1900. He was mentioned in despatches
London Gazette 10 September 1901, and awarded the D.S.O. London Gazette 27 September 1901. The Official Army list for 1902 states that his nomination for the D.S.O. was dated 29 November 1900, and was, therefore, almost certainly earned with Brabant’s Horse. The Insignia were presented to him by the King on 29 October 1901. He retired in February 1904 and is shown in the Army List for 1906 as Military Secretary to H.E. the Governor General, Commonwealth of Australia.
