, M.B.E. (Civil) 1st type, reverse arms inscribed ‘H.J.F. Barber, Feb. 23 1933’, in Garrard & Co. case of issue; Jubilee 1897, L.C.C.M.F.B. Henry J. F. Barber); Coronation 1902, L.C.C.M.F.B., bronze (Henry J. F. Barber); together with a renamed I.G.S. 1854-95, 1 clasp, Burma 1885-7 ‘H. Barber, A.B., S.G., H.M.S. Bacchante’; and a named struck silver prize medal, Arethusa & Chichester Training Ships, 18 months service at sea with a very good character, generally very fine or better (5) £130-160

Sold with an original press cutting, dated 24 February 1933, with a picture of recipient and caption ‘Mr H. J. Barber, chief reception clerk at the Conservative Central Officce, Westminster, leaving Buckingham Palace after receiving the M.B.E.’

Henry James Barber served aboard H.M.S. Bacchante from October 1886 until September 1888. He was invalided out of the Royal Navy on 3 January 1890.
