Cooks Mate (Chief Butcher) Walter Bird was killed on 7 May 1915, when the S.S. Lusitania was torpedoed and sunk off the coast of Ireland, near the Old Head of Kinsale. Sold with copy of medal roll which show that he qualified for his medals whilst serving aboard the S.S. Aquitania, the Lusitania’s sister ship.
