Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 1 clasp, Cape Colony (Capt. Capt. W. A. Hebden, 1/Essex Rgt.) contained in a contemporary oval glazed case with brass label inscribed ‘Captain Hebden, 1st Essex Regiment’, rim scratched over rank by pin in case, otherwise brilliant extremely fine £350-400

Wilfrid Arthur Hebden was born in February 1867, and educated at Harrow. He entered the Essex Regiment in January 1886, being promoted to Captain in July 1897. Captain Hebden embarked for South Africa in November 1899, and served in the north of Cape Colony. He died of enteric at De Aar Hospital on 28 January 1900.
