Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 2 clasps, The Nile 1884-85, Abu Klea (2116 Corp., 1st Dragns.); Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Diamond Hill (2116 S.S. Major, 27th Coy., 7th Imp. Yeo.); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (2116 Sqn. S. Major, 1st Dragoon Gds.) note regiment on this last medal, together with five named Royal Military Tournament prize medals, mostly for sword and bayonet fighting, dated between 1893 and 1897, the campaign medals all with pitting from star, otherwise good fine and better (8) £550-600

Two officers and 36 other ranks of the Royal Dragoons, were present at Abu Klea in the Heavy Camel Regiment.

Alexander Thomas Rogers was born in the Parish of Kilconnel, Galway, Ireland, sometime in 1862. He enlisted into the 1st Royal Dragoons on 17 October 1882, serving with them at Abu Klea, in which battle he suffered a spear wound in his left shoulder and a shot wound to his foot. He transferred to the Royal North Devon Yeomanry on 4 December 1898, serving with the 27th (Devonshire) Company, Imperial Yeomanry during the Boer War. Rogers returned to the 1st Dragoons on 1 November 1902, being discharged at his own request 10 February 1903, on completion of 18 years service. Sold with confirmation and seven pages of copied service papers.
