Two officers and 38 other ranks of the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays) were present at Abu Klea in the Heavy Camel Regiment.

William Walden was born in Banbury, Northamptonshire, sometime in 1858. He enlisted into the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen’s Bays) on 15 January 1876, having previously been recruited into the Oxfordshire Militia. He was discharged on 28 January 1888 on completion of his first period of limited service. Sold with confirmation and eight pages of copied service papers, including ‘Certificate of Conviction’, dated 4 November 1878, City of Dublin,
‘fined twenty shillings and sentenced to fourteen days imprisonment ....did commit an act contrary to public decency by having sexual intercourse with a woman on the public thoroughfare.’
