The Royal Victorian Order, M.V.O., 4th class, the reverse officially numbered ‘463’ and additionally inscribed ‘S.B. 6.6.06’; Queen’s Sudan 1896-98 (Capt., R/Fus.); Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, 1 clasp, Khartoum, unnamed as issued, mounted as won, light contact marks, otherwise nearly extremely fine (3) £700-900

M.V.O., 4th Class, on the occasion of the presentation of medals by His Majesty The King, 6 June 1906, to the 1st Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, for the Thibet Expedition.

Stanley Bird was born on 28 October 1864, son of Colonel Stanley George Bird, C.B. He joined the Royal Fusiliers in 1883, and served on the Nile Expedition 1898, including the battle of Khartoum (Mentioned in despatches
London Gazette 30 September 1898, Queen’s Medal and Egyptian Medal with clasp). He became Lieutenant-Colonel in 1905, retired in 1909, and died on 27 October 1938.
