Arthur Jabez Loane was Lieutenant of the
Bittern at the bombardment of Alexandria, 11th July 1882, and during the Egyptian war (Medal with clasp, and Bronze Star). He was Lieutenant commanding H.M.S. Thrush and landed with the Naval Brigade in the Expedition up the Gambia, West Coast of Africa, December 1891 to February 1892, resulting in the capture of Tambi and Toniataba (Medal with clasp). He retired as Commander on 8 September 1898.
