Peter, bust left, reverse Orpheus on winged Pegasus, 68mm (PBE 694; BDM IV, 463); 60th Anniversary of the Death of Jean Baptiste Carpeaux, 1935, a bronze medal by E.E. Lindauer, bust three-quarters right, reverse La Danse, from the façade of the Paris Opera House, 68mm (CGMP p.247). [2]. Extremely fine; first in maroon fitted case (£60-80)

Alexandre Falguière (1831-1900), painter and sculptor.

Jean Baptiste Carpeaux (1827-75), versatile sculptor and painter whose work is full of spontaneity, originality and fluid grace; one of his pupils was Rodin. Carpeaux’s best-known work, La Danse, was executed between 1865-9 for Charles Garnier’s Paris Opera House; it is now in the Louvre
