Jean Dolent, c.1888, a uniface cast bronze portrait medal by J.-B.-G. Déloye, bust left, 100mm (Coll. R. Marx 363, this piece; BDM –). A bold yet graceful portrait, almost extremely fine and attractively patinated, very rare; with the reversed RM monogram of Marx stamped close to the edge at 4 o’clock, and with clip and ring for suspension (£70-90)

Jean-Baptiste-Gustave Deloye (1838-99), sculptor and medallist from Sédan whose softly modelled yet graceful work is in the mould of David d’Angers. He was also responsible for the new Liechtenstein coinage of 1898
