An unusual Great War M.M. group of six awarded to Serjeant A. C. Turner, Canadian Railway Troops, formerly 13th U.S. Cavalry and latterly, Royal Canadian Air Force

Military Medal, G.V.R. (225470 Sjt., 13/Can. R.T.); British War and Victory Medals (225470 Sjt., C.R.T.); Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, no clasp; War Medal 1939-45, Canadian issue in silver, unnamed; U.S.A., Mexican Service Medal 1911-17 (Cpl. C. Turner, Troop ‘L’ 13th Cav. U.S.A.) privately engraved, silvered and gilded and mounted court style for wear, some edge bruising and contact marks, fine and better (6) £350-400

Alfred Charles Turner was born in Cardiff, South Wales, on 5 August 1893. In 1915 he served in the U.S.A. 13th Cavalry in the war against Mexico. In 1917 he was living in Hamilton, Ontario and was a Machinist by occupation. On 19 May 1917 he attested for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force and was posted to the 8th Reserve Battalion of Canadian Mounted Rifles. He entered England in November 1917 and entered France, to serve with the Canadian Railway Troops in March 1918. For his services in France he was awarded the Military Medal. He was discharged in Hamilton in April 1919. In 1939 he was living in St. James, Manitoba and was employed as a Commercial Traveller. At Winnipeg, Manitoba he attested for the Royal Canadian Air Force on 31 August 1939. Turner was discharged on 12 June 1940 ‘His services no longer required’.
