Six: Private J. F. Howbridge, Army Air Corps and 2nd S.A.S., late Coldstream Guards

1939-45 Star; Africa Star, clasp, 8th Army; Italy Star; France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45, together with a quantity of original badges (6), including Norway Special Service Badge, A.A.C. cap badge and embroidered S.A.S. “Wings”, and his 2nd pattern FS knife, by William Rogers, Sheffield, in its leather sheaf, extremely fine (Lot) £400-500

John French Howbridge was born in Market Weighton, Yorkshire, in 1914, and was a pre-war regular in the Coldstream Guards. In common with other members of the Guards, he volunteered for the Special Air Service, in which capacity he was employed in North Africa, the Mediterranean and North-West Europe 1943-45, latterly as a member of the Motor Transport section of H.Q., 2nd S.A.S. Post-war he was employed as a driver for the British Road Services Co. and he died in Glasgow in 1992.

Also sold with the recipient’s original Special Air Service 1941-45 certificate with Battle Honours from Egypt 1940 to Norway 1945, and later ink inscription his own hand, and his ‘Liberation of Norway 8 May 1945’ certificate with period ink inscription ‘2655341 Pte. J. F. Howbridge, A.A.C.’, and later inscription in his own hand, both in sealed plastic covers.
