Harry Frederick John Lawes was born in Plaistow, West Ham, Essex in 1924, the son of Harry and Emily Gladys Lawes. Joining the Army, he served as a Bugler with the 2nd Battalion K.R.R.C. in Palestine. By January 1941, still with the K.R.R.C., he was attached to No. 7 Prisoner-of-War Camp. He later served with the Royal Armoured Corps, attached to the 31st Tank Brigade. The brigade landed at ‘Juno’ Beach on 26 June 1944. Lawes, serving as a Trooper attached to the H.Q. Squadron, 31st Tank Brigade, was killed in action on 29 June 1944, aged 19 years. He was buried in the St. Manvieu War Cemetery, Cheux, Calvados, France. With copied research on paper and C.D..
