David James Singleton, a Gold medallist medical student at Aberdeen, placed his medical career on hold and was appointed Temporary Sub-Lieutenant, R.N.R. on 18 October 1915; Temporary Acting Lieutenant on 26 January 1916 and Temporary Lieutenant on 18 October 1917. Was mentioned in despatches for his services in destroyers and torpedo boat flotillas for the period ending 31 December 1917 (London Gazette 8 March 1918). His temporary commission ended on 26 January 1920.
