Three: Second Lieutenant J. Gatehouse, Indian Army Reserve of Officers, attached 6th Jat Light Infantry, who was killed/died, in Mesopotamia, 25 March 1916

John Gatehouse was born in 1897, the son of the Reverend Thomea Ernest Gatehouse and Mrs Ethel Gatehouse, of the Vicarage, North Cheriton, Temple Combe, Somerset. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry, spending his probationary year, from which he was commissioned into the Indian Army Reserve of Officers and later attached to the 6th Jats Light Infantry as Signalling Officer. The 6th Jats formed part of the Kut Relief Column in the 21st Brigade under Brigadier-General Norie which was involved in heavy fighting and sustained heavy casualties.

2nd Lieutenant Gatehouse was killed/died on 25 March 1916 and was buried in the Basra War Cemetery, Iraq.
