Richard Thompson Murray served in the Trawler Section of the Royal Naval Reserve and was appointed a Skipper in April 1917.
According to an accompanying letter and newspaper feature, his father had a share in a drifter called Handsome, which served with the Dover Patrol, an interest inherited by the recipient - so he may have served in her during the 1939-45 War, when she became a fleet tender at Scapa.
He died at Buckie in Morayshire in May 1972.
