Three: Able Seaman W. Durham, Royal Navy, late Lance-Corporal, Essex Regiment

1914-15 Star (1248 L. Cpl., Essex R.); British War and Victory Medals (J.52752 A.B. R.N.) mounted as worn, very fine (3) £40-60

Walter Durham was born in Brighton, Sussex on 19 April 1893. A Shop Assistant by occupation, he attested for the Territorial Force on 6 January 1910, aged 19 years. Served with the 7th Battalion Essex Regiment. With them he entered the Balkan theatre of war on 11 August 1915. He was discharged on completing his period of service on 21 January 1916.

Listing his occupation as Photographer, late Sergeant in the 7th Battalion Essex Regiment, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as an Ordinary Seaman in May 1916. Promoted to Able Seaman in October 1916.
