Ernest Ford was appointed a Midshipman in the Royal Naval Reserve in August 1914, followed by rapid advancement to Sub. Remaining similarly employed until January 1916, he returned to sea in another armed merchant cruiser, the Morea, in March of the latter year.

Awarded the R.N.R. Officer’s Decoration in May 1933, and advanced to Commander in June 1935, Ford was employed in the acting rank of Captain at
Pembroke IV during the 1939-45 War, a supply base at Chatham.

He was placed on the Retired List in August 1946; sold with brief research details.
