Samuel Okher Kemble was born in Barton, Devon in 1872 and served in the Royal Marine Artillery prior to and during the Great War. He left England on 14 January 1918 and arrived at New Orleans on 11 February, working on the cargo ship Eurymachus as an Able Seaman. He died at Fairford, Gloucestershire in 1937. Sold with a postcard photograph of the recipient wearing his L.S. & G.C. Medal.

Sapper William Joseph Bull, 225th Field Company, Royal Engineers, was killed in action in an explosion on a road bridge between Medjez-el-Bab and Tunis on 25 April 1943, aged 23 years. His name is commemorated on the Medjez-el-Bab Memorial, Tunisia. William Joseph Bull was the son of William Ernest and Josephine Mary Bull and husband of Ruby Violet Bull, of Windsor. His widow, Ruby Violet Bull, later married Samuel Leslie Kemble, son of Samuel Okher Kemble. Sold with the medal forwarding box addressed to his widow, ‘Mrs R. V. Kemble, ‘Kara Shaa’, 6 New Rd., Ascot, Berks.’; condolence slip, named to ‘1889825 Spr. William J. Bull RE’; R.E. cap badge; R.E. enamelled pin-backed lapel badge and R.E. cloth badge.
